NOC NEMO Output Delivered through Jasmin

These pages provide access to output from several runs of the NEMO model, generated by the NOC Marine System Modelling group on HECToR/ARCHER, the UK National supercomputing Service (http://www.archer.ac.uk).

These data are available for public download and use. Use of these data falls under the Open Government data license, which can be seen here, and all users must comply with this license, which is in line with the NERC data policy.

Global 1/12th degree forced ocean configuration (ORCA0083)

ORCA0083-N01: 33 Year run of the 1/12 degree NEMO model, forced using the Drakkar Forcing Set (DFS), starting in 1978.

Run tag: ORCA0083-N01

Spatial resolution: 0.0083 deg (1/12 deg)

Temporal Resolution: 5-day, monthly and annual mean data are available.

Data Format: NetCDF-4

Directory Structure: Data are arranged in directories by year

File naming: eg:    ORCA0083-N01_19781201d05T.nc   contains the 5 day mean state parameters at all grid points and all vertical levels starting on 1st December 1978 for NEMO run ORCA0083-N01

Spatial resolution: 0.25 deg (1/4 deg)

Temporal Resolution: 5-day, monthly and annual mean data are available. 20 year and 40 year monthly mean data also available.

Ancillary data

ECMWF supplied wave forcing data: Wave forcing data from ECMWF. Supplied on a regular 1 degree grid. Available for 1979 to 2013 inclusive.

Standard file naming convention

Unless otherwise specified output for each run is provided in a series of globe-spanning datasets with each dataset containing a single time instance of multiple variables. Each file will only contain variables co-located in the Arakawa C-grid used by the model. The following file naming convention is used universally:

<run_tag>_<yyyy><mean_period><parameter>.nc

where:

<run_tag>   is a unique charcter string identifying the run

<yyyy>   is the 4-digit year of the mean period included in the file

<mean_period>   is the averaging period - will be one of:

<mm><dd>d05   - 5 day mean ending on month <mm>, day <dd>

m<mm>   - monthly mean file where <mm> is the 2-digit month number

y01 - annual mean

<parameter>   is the included parameter set - will be one of:

T - Model fields located at T-points (grid-cell centres), temperature, salinty etc

T2 - Averages of selected, squared T-pt fields calculated from 5-day mean fields (monthly and annual means only)

U - Model fields located at U-points (mid right-hand edge), zonal velocity etc.

U2 - Averages of selected, squared U-pt fields calculated from 5-day mean fields (monthly and annual means only)

V - Model fields located at V-points (mid northern edge), meridional velocity etc.

V2 - Averages of selected, squared V-pt fields calculated from 5-day mean fields (monthly and annual means only)

VT - Averages of selected, meridional velocity x tracer values for northward transport computations. Calculated from 5-day mean fields (for monthly and annual means only)

W - Model fields located at W-points (centre top face), vertical velocity etc.

W2 - Averages of selected, squared W-pt fields calculated from 5-day mean fields (monthly and annual means only)

I - Sea ice and related fields from the sea ice component (LIM2)
